“A truly therapeutic procedure can have for its objective no less than the whole of mankind.”
J. L. Moreno, M.D. (1889-1974)

All programs invested in training individuals in effective use of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy are guided by the intent of Moreno’s message from so many years ago. To this end, Two Lakes Psychodrama Institute has as an integral part of its mission, a commitment to helping create and sustain an active and viable psychodrama community in the Pacific Northwest.

Psychodrama, psychomotor therapy, sociometry and group psychotherapy which utilizes encounter techniques, are all examples of action therapy and are as well, examples of approach therapy. Approach therapies are distinctive in that they encourage emotional catharsis and help to find ways to bring old issues into the here and now, making issues concrete and immediate. Approach therapies draw their power from action, spontaneity, immediacy and creativity. Approach therapies also realize that deep-seated emotional issues are seldom, if ever, cured by logic. These issues are the property of a different part of the brain, and if logic and reason could cure such an issue, it would not exist to be a problem.

To use any of the approach therapies in a professional manner requires the practitioner to internalize a detailed and comprehensive model as a guide for action processes aimed at healing human emotional pain. The results from a psychodrama or psychomotor therapy structure that is well-staged and well attuned to the emotional needs of the protagonist are so profound, yet appear so simple. Beginners in the art often miss the point that creating these processes requires extensive training, thought, time and effort in order to develop competence as a director.

Our training program blends psychodrama, psychomotor therapy, sociometry, group psychotherapy and a five element model of Chinese medicine. This dynamic approach is one that addresses pertinent emotional, social and somatic factors of the individuals and groups served. We are pleased to offer this powerful therapeutic process to trainees who are working toward certification in psychodrama; professionals who wish to augment their present skills; and individuals seeking personal growth.
